Drenth as Regional General Manager for Egypt & North Africa and General Manager of InterContinental Cairo Citystars. This appointment marks Maarten’s first assignment in the Middle East & Africa region—a milestone both for his career and for the brand’s growth ambitions in North Africa.
Maarten brings over 36 years of leadership experience in the luxury and lifestyle hospitality sector. His distinguished career spans roles across Europe, the United States and South America, predominantly within the InterContinental portfolio. Notably, he previously served as Area General Manager in Portugal, leading multiple flagship hotels and delivering strong commercial results and brand elevation.
Throughout his career, Maarten has earned recognition for his strategic mindset, his unwavering commitment to guest experience, and his ability to build and inspire high-performing teams.
In his new role, Maarten will lead the growth and performance of all IHG Hotels & Resorts brands across Egypt and North Africa, while maintaining a hands-on leadership role at InterContinental Cairo Citystars. He will be responsible for driving operational excellence, elevating brand presence, and ensuring exceptional guest experiences across the region’s diverse portfolio.
